About Putorius

I created Putorius in 2005 as an online journal for my experiences with Linux. It was never intended for mass consumption, but by 2013 people started visiting the blog regularly and even sending in requests for information and help. Most of the content from 2005-2016 has been sent to the bit bucket because of being outdated and no longer relevant. I am in the process of updating anything I feel can still provide useful information.

In 2019 Putorius underwent a rebranding.  We launched a new website and had our logo redesigned.  You can read about it here.

About The Author

Steven Vona is a Linux administrator whose passion for technology extends beyond the day to day and into a love of teaching his skills to others. Steven is trained and certified in multiple technologies, including Microsoft Windows, Linux, VMWare and Cybersecurity, and has over 16 years of experience working in both the public and private sectors.

What Makes Putorius Unique?

I believe that what sets us apart from the rest is depth. Instead of writing an article that simply says “type this command to do this” we try to give in-depth information about how a command works, it’s relationship to other commands and the OS, possible security implications and of course real world examples with explanations. All written in an easy to follow, down to earth manner that benefits all skill sets.

Our values stem from a strong belief in learning by experimentation and the fact that everyone has something to teach and to learn.

“There are naive questions, tedious questions, ill-phrased questions, questions put after inadequate self-criticism. But every question is a cry to understand the world. There is no such thing as a dumb question.”

-Carl Sagan

What is a Putorius?

I have probably be asked “What is the name Putorius?” several hundred times. So many times in fact, that I have written a whole story about it.
